Orange Apple Pie

Apple pie recipe combines apples with a hint of orange peel for a delicious finished pie.
Ingredients -
9-inch Double Pie Crust (prepared)
3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
1 tablespoon Cornstarch
1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon grated Orange Peel
1/8 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon Salt
7 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith Apples, about 2 pounds or 7 medium
2 tablespoons Butter
Milk
Sugar
 
Preparation:

1. Preheat oven to 400 F.

2. Roll out dough for bottom crust. Place dough in 9-inch pie plate. Press dough carefully down into pie plate.

3. Trim excess dough around edge.

4. In small bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, orange peel, nutmeg and salt.

5. Place apple slices in pie crust. Sprinkle sugar mixture over apples. Dot with butter.

6. Moisten pie crust edge with water.

7. Roll out top pie crust. Place over apple pie filling and trim edge ½-inch beyond edge.

8. Fold crust under bottom crust to seal.

9. Crimp and flute edges with moist fingers.

10. Cut short slits in top crust with sharp knife.

11. Bake 35 minutes. Remove pie from oven. Use pastry brush-to-brush top crust with milk, and sprinkle with sugar.

12. Cover outside edge with foil to avoid over browning.

13. Bake 10 additional minutes. Filling should be bubbling and crust should be golden brown.
