Apple Crumb Pie

Apple pie with walnuts and raisins. Filling is topped with a buttery brown sugar mixture and baked until golden brown.
Ingredients -
1 (9 inch) Pie Shell
6 cups thinly sliced Apples
1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
3/4 cup White Sugar
2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
1/2 cup chopped Walnuts
1/2 cup Raisins
1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour
1/2 cup packed Brown Sugar
3 tablespoons Butter
 
Preparation:

1. Preheat oven to 375 F.

2. Place apple slices in large bowl. Sprinkle with lemon juice.

3. Combine white sugar, 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in small bowl.

4. Sprinkle sugar mixture over apples and toss to coat.

5. Stir in walnuts and raisins.

6. Spoon the apple pie filling mixture into pie shell.

7. Combine ½ cup all-purpose flour and brown sugar in small bowl. Using a fork, cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.

8. Sprinkle brown sugar mixture over pie filling.

9. Cover pie top loosely with foil.

10. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake additional 25 minutes. Top should be golden brown.

11. Remove from oven and cool on wire rack.

Add pizzazz to any pie by adding a decorative edge. Most decorative edges are meant for single pie crusts.

Baking Tip
How To Measure Shortening
Use an ice cream slade (wide spoon) to spoon shortening out of the container into a measuring cup. Use the back of the spade to push the shortening into the cup and to level it off.
